Claudia Sheinbaum Withdraws ISSSTE Reform Initiative

President Claudia Sheinbaum withdrew her initiative to reform the ISSSTE law after meeting for several hours with members of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) at the National Palace. This was confirmed by Senator Ricardo Monreal on X, pointing out that according to Article 77 of the Regulations of the Chamber of Deputies, the president has the authority to withdraw initiatives she presents.

For his part, the general director of ISSSTE, Martí Batres, also corroborated that Sheinbaum decided to withdraw the reform initiative to the ISSSTE Law presented on February 7, 2025. This is with the aim of continuing the dialogue with the teachers on various topics. Although the initiative included important benefits in housing, the president will grant these benefits through Administrative Decrees soon.

The 72-hour labor strike planned by the CNTE remains in place, as indicated by Elvira Veleces and Pedro Hernández, representatives of sections 14 in Guerrero and 9 in Mexico City. Both mentioned that they will not consider the presidential initiative withdrawn until it is published in the Parliamentary Gazette. Despite this agreement, the actions scheduled by the CNTE for the coming days will not be canceled, maintaining both the labor strike and the sit-in in the Zócalo of Mexico City.
